Musharraf’s treatment begins in Dubai

DUBAI: The treatment of Former President Pervez Musharraf has begun in Dubai where he arrived a few hours ago from Karachi via Emirates flight EK-611 after the federal government allowed him to proceed abroad for medical treatment in the light of Supreme Court judgment.

On Thursday evening, the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Khan told media representatives in Islamabad that the government had decided to allow Pervez Musharraf to proceed abroad for medical treatment after the apex court ordered removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

Musharraf is likely to be given medical treatment in his residence by his personal doctors who had already reached Dubai.

Meanwhile, the former president has also begun his political activities soon after he landed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a meeting of the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) UAE Chapter has been convened in Dubai on Friday evening which will be presided over by Pervez Musharraf.

Source told the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency on the condition of anonymity that Musharraf is likely to travel to the United States after a few-day stay in Dubai. Therefore, his return to Pakistan does not seem happening soon as he committed while being in Karachi.

Talking to a private news channel, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Law Ashtar Ausaf Ali said that the government had given permission to Pervez Musharraf to proceed abroad for treatment but he would return to the country and face the trial.

“The decision has been taken in accordance with the Supreme Court verdict and Musharraf has been allowed to go abroad on humanitarian grounds,” he said.

The Minister of State for Privatization and Chairman Privatization Commission Muhammad Zubair also said that Pervez Musharraf had promised that after his treatment he would return to the country.
