Flydubai flight FZ981 crashes in southern Russia, 61 killed

MOSCOW, Russia: A plane carrying 61 people on board crashed while landing at the Rostov-on-Don airport in Southern Russia on Saturday, leaving all the passengers and crew members dead.

Flydubai flight FZ981 travelled to Russia from Dubai but when it was making second attempt to land on the runway at the Rostov-on-Dov airport, it crashed and burst into flames, according to the Russian state news agency TASS.

The Regional Emergencies Ministry said that plane crash caused the deaths of all 55 passengers and six crew members on board. The passengers included Russian nationals only however foreigners were among crew members.

“During the landing approach a Boeing-737 crashed. It had 55 passengers on board. All of them died,” a regional spokesman told TASS.

Sources said that the weather conditions were not good and the plane failed to land in its first attempt. But when it made another attempt to land on the run, it hit the ground and caught fire.

Flydubai confirmed the incident on its facebook, saying it would extend as much help as possible to the affectees.
