A Las Vegas-based entertainment company is the owner of MGM Resorts International in Dubai. It was initiated in 2017 for the entertainment purposes of visitors in Dubai. However, recently, MGM Resorts International is looking forward to legalize gambling in Dubai. this might happen in the year 2023.

The CEO of MGM Resorts International, Bill Hornbuckle gave a positive hint at opening casinos in his resorts by saying, “as soon as this year.” It hints that the company has been making negotiations with the government to make gambling permissible in Dubai. However, when this Las Vegas entertainment company announced the opening of the resort, it did not reveal about opening casinos anytime in future. It only consisted of 1,000 hotel rooms and 10 villas.

The CEO, Hornbuckle has shown that the company is planning to expand the services at the resort by introducing gambling. He said that the final decision only rests in the hands of the national government to legalize gambling in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Whatever will happen, the company will reveal any further progress in this matter this summer.

According to the report of Skift, the CEO is actively making progress to legitimise the opening of casinos. However, if the efforts fail to make amends in Dubai laws, they will look forward to legalising gambling in Abu Dhabi. He further talked about the potential of gambling in Dubai and the availability of property. While in other Emirates, the decision lies with the government of each Emirate.

Competitors of MGM Resorts International

MGM was the only Las-Vegas based entertainment company to open resorts in Dubai. But, we have another one coming. Wynn Resorts is also developing a resort at Marjan Island in Ras al Khaimah (RAS). According to the CEO of Wynn Resorts, the resorts will likely have an 18,500-square-meter mate casino in Dubai. The resort will, expectedly, open in 2026 as a direct competition to MGM Resorts International.

Meanwhile, these companies are making plans, Emirates is looking into the laws to legalise gambling in Dubai according to the laws of Singapore and the US.
